Passing through the Lexington SC Real Estate and Columbia SC Real Estate markets was a line of storms that knocked over trees (on my street, on my neighbor’s houses, and several other places around Lexington and Columbia), caused over 10,000 power outages, and destroyed a few houses. This is the storm that passed through the midlands.
It was not a fun time for many people, but more than likely, you have homeowners insurance. Homeowners insurance on your Columbia SC Real Estate home is a necessity. Roughly $500/year for the average home will give you a huge piece of mind, as well as save you some money on costly repairs such as roof damage, wind damage, hail damage, water damage, and several other things. If you have a mortgage on your home, more than likely you are required by your Lien Holder to have a Homeowners insurance policy on your Columbia SC Real Estate. However, if you own your home outright, you are not required to have a homeowners policy on your Columbia SC Real Estate, however, it is a great idea to keep your home under a good policy. If you do not have a homeowners policy on your Columbia SC Real Estate home, think about getting a policy and speak with an agent today. Comment from: Tom Vanderwell [Visitor] Hey Hunter, I don't know if it's this way in SC, but up here in Michigan, if a basement floods because of heavy rains (like the other day when we got 5 inches in 2 hours) it's not covered by insurance. If it's an equipment malfunction, then it does. It makes it even more important to make sure that drainage is good, sump pumps are working etc. Tom
Comment from: hunter.jackson [Member] Tom, Thanks for the comment. In South Carolina, we don't really have basements as yall do up north. If we do have a basement, it is fully finished typically and a working part of the home. We tend to be on Crawlspaces or Slabs here, and the majority of us have never heard of a sump pump. However, you made an excellent point. Flooding is NOT covered by most home insurance policies. If you are in a flood zone (around lake, river, stream, etc), you NEED to have flood insurance. Most mortgage companies will require this if you are in a 100 year flood zone, however, some do not...but this is definately something you need if you are in one of those areas.
